CAN BE, Inc. has several partners, most notably Penn State Hazleton, as well as Ben Franklin Technology Partners and PPL Utilities. These partners play a vital role in the daily operations of CAN BE, financially and through other support channels. Without them, CAN BE would not be possible.
Penn State Hazleton is a friendly, student-centered campus of 1,350 students located on State Route 93, just north of the City of Hazleton. It is part of a University with an international reputation and offers a wide variety of educational and career opportunities. A Penn State education opens many doors to career opportunities and further education. Classes at Hazleton are generally small, and faculty and staff alike are able to give students individual attention. Their faculty includes award-winning teachers and scholars who care a great deal about teaching and about the educational experience they provide students.
The Ben Franklin Technology Partners of Northeastern Pennsylvania (BFTP/NEP) links Pennsylvania entrepreneurs and companies with people, technology, ideas, funding, and other resources to help them prosper in today's knowledge-based economy. BFTP/NEP is part of a four-center, state funded economic development initiative that was created in 1983 and has been recognized nationally and internationally as a model program.
PPL Utilities is headquartered in Allentown, Pa. PPL controls more than 12,000 megawatts of generating capacity in the United States, sells energy in key U.S. markets, and delivers electricity to nearly 5 million customers in Pennsylvania, the United Kingdom and Latin America. PPL frequently supports projects that enhance the communities in which its customer base lives. PPL and its employees also contribute frequently to area volunteer organizations.
Luzerne County Commissioners - the County supported CAN BE with the approval of a $270,000 loan through the Business Development Loan Program. Those funds are helping with the startup costs associated with the CAN BE venture.
